The Donegal veteran’s Irish career started later than it should have and was cruelly interrupted by the ACL injury he suffered against Wales in 2017.
But before and after that injury he has made every moment count.
It was he who captained Ireland to the famous EURO 2016 victory over Italy and he who led Ireland to some of the best performances of the Stephen Kenny era when the rest of the team was short on experience.
His remarkable performance against Kylian Mbappe in March 2023 won’t be soon forgotten.
