Remember When: He started in midfield for Martin O’Neill in the Nations League

Bio: Cyrus emerged as a capable deputy for Seamus Coleman in first half of the Martin O’Neill era but he hasn’t had it all his own way since then.

While a dazzling goal against Gibraltar won him early admirers, Ireland’s 5-1 defeat to Denmark in November 2017 saw him receive excessive criticism on what was a night to forget for the Boys in Green.

A year later he was tasked with playing as a midfielder for Ireland in the UEFA Nations League – something he found difficult – but he was all the more comfortable at right-back when called upon by Mick McCarthy and Stephen Kenny thereafter.
